THE CONTROVERSY OF THE SERPENT BEARER

(All the matter mentioned here is my personal opinion and interpretation from all the references I could assimilate in my available time and I do not claim any expertise in the concerned topic.)

As the new decade was taking its yet infantile breaths and was setting up the pace for a new era our world witnessed the birth of yet another controversy which would never see the end of the tunnel.
To those who have not being able to put their fingers on the issue, I am talking about so called “gatecrasher” to the age old system of astrology, the 13^th  sign of astrological system-The Ophiuchus or  The Serpent Bearer . This new sign created waves among the followers giving them yet another reason to panic in their already over consuming lifestyles and for the non-believers, a new topic to be cynical about.

As far as I am concerned, I follow these systems as per my convenience...but don’t we all do that. I presume that this will be the best place to mention that I am a CANCERIAN as per the Zodiac/Western system of astrology and the reason I am being so specific about the system is that there are many systems in existence like SIDEREAL; ZODIAC/WESTERN; VEDIC etc etc. The reason I chose to “follow” this system was that first of all it is the system which most of the people follow around the world and secondly it was assigned to me as per the date of my birth. As a kid the more I came to learn about the traits of being a Cancerian aka The Crab I started to relate my way of  interpreting this world with it, not that it governed my world but few pointers here and there to a confused kid tend to make him feel  more secure about his identity. As for the belief, I consider myself among those people who tend to pick out the best apples from the basket without sweating too much on the rotten lot. Consider me a hypocrite but if you ever wake up with a grumpy face and the forecast says that you’ll have the best day, I think it is a good enough reason to give yourself hope to kick start the day.

So now after all the rant about my own self we land back again to the topic in hand-the 13^th player of the team. This sign is based on the SIDEREAL system of astrology which follows the star constellations of same names in the sky and is widely followed by Indian astrologers and some western astrologers too. The 13^th sign has been a well known entity among the astrologers of both the sides for quite some time but rarely been included due to various reasons including the fact about the division of the entire 360degrees dimension into 12 equal divisions of 30degrees each even though they were aware of the dynamic nature of the stars and the planets until now when some “astronomer” pointed out the precession of the equinoxes and the shift of the Earth’s tilt making it possible to include a whole new sign into the dynamic astrology system. The Sun also confers an important influence on this astrological system. Though the sign was made popular by the BERG system of astrology in 1995 as per the directives of International Astronomical Union (IAU), it was not accepted into other systems like Western or the Tropical system. It is fairly popular in Japan though. I would again like to point out here that this constellation was in knowledge of the astronomers and the astrologers for ages but it was not eligible to make it to the list of the Zodiacs until this century when the Sun’s position was desirable and then there was a fair chance for the astronomers to milk the opportunity and create a baffling controversy affecting the masses and the astrologers alike.I would also like to clear the famous rumour saying that it is only for people born after 2007/2009 etc as completely false. This originated from people who thought about the recent tilts in the earth’s axis in last few years linking the former to the latter forgetting the fact that this has been happening for ages.Finally what counts is what system you prefer to follow.   

So for now I would conclude this article but all I can say is that it is just the matter of faith unless you belong to the dying breed of people who do not leave home if the forecast says that it is going to be a stormy day ahead. A word of advice for those who are devout believers and especially the Hindu community to confirm it with their respective honourable astrologers so as to what the influence is on your signs though there have been news that only few new aspects will be assimilated in the old signs without making any new changes to the whole system but don’t take my word for it and confirm yourself. Well my other friends need not worry as the western system is based on seasons and not dynamic constellation phenomena so you are still what you were. So here we are in the end and all I can say now is that it’s up to you to see how much priority this matter needs in your life because finally we all are the products of the choices we make and the reactions we give. Hope I was able to clear a few doubts.
